Tuning kits

All of our tuning kits are developed in our lab at our company headquarters in Växjö with the help of the most sophisticated testing equipment available on the market. We do careful calculations of effect, acceleration and other crucial engine parameters. Each of our tuning kits is road-tested by our experienced test drivers before it’s put out for sale. After the tuning is complete, you can add extra gear such as sport air filters, sport exhaust systems and other products that add even more to enhance your car’s performance.

What is a tuning kit?

Installing a tuning kit with our products means reprogramming the engine control unit (ECU), the computer that manages the car’s engine, using our software. BSR’s advanced software delivers increased power and torque.

How is a tuning kit installed?

In most cases, you can install the tuning kit yourself using our PPC unit (Portable Program Carrier), which we send directly to you. It connects easily via the car’s diagnostic port, and the tuning process is completed with just a few button presses. The diagnostic port is usually located under the steering wheel and is the same connector used by workshops for troubleshooting.

In some cases, you may need to bring your car to us or one of our many authorized dealers across the country for installation. You can find a list of all our dealers here

Traditionally, engine tuning involved replacing a chip in the ECU (hence the term "chip tuning") but this is no longer necessary today.

Does this damage the engine?

No, we never push the engine beyond what it is designed to handle.

Does this increase wear and tear?

No, more power does not mean more wear. Cold starts and not changing the engine oil on time are examples of what actually cause increased wear.

How is the gearbox affected by a tuning kit?

Torque control is carefully calibrated for optimal performance without compromising durability. The important torque reduction during shifting is also maintained.

Is the tuning detectable?

Most brand-specific workshops do not have the equipment or expertise to read out files from the ECU. To do so, the ECU must be sent to the car or ECU manufacturer. We don’t recommend hiding the fact that you’ve tuned your car from your workshop.

Does tuning reduce fuel consumption?

By utilizing the improved torque, essentially a form of "unconscious eco-driving", average fuel consumption can be reduced by several percent compared to the original setup.

Tuning kit vs. diesel box – What’s the difference?

BSR’s tuning kits differ significantly from all diesel boxes (also known as plug-in boxes) available on the market. Our PPC unit (a small handheld device) optimizes the engine's software instead of adding external boxes and wires that manipulate certain signals to increase fuel delivery.

Modern cars have complex systems working together to ensure everything functions optimally. A diesel box manipulates some signals with the sole purpose of either increasing injection time or raising fuel pressure, all without the rest of the car’s systems detecting it. This leads to incorrect calculations and side effects such as:

Should I buy or borrow the PPC-unit?

When purchasing a PPC tuning kit from us, you can choose to either buy the PPC-unit or use a loan version that you return afterward. The advantage of buying your PPC unit is the ability to always revert to the original settings and keep your software up to date. The PPC lets you switch between the original and tuned setup as many times as you like.

If your workshop resets your car to its original software, you can easily reprogram the tuning while keeping any updates made by the workshop. This flexibility is unique in the market. The PPC unit is user-friendly, featuring an intuitive interface in a sleek and ergonomic design.

Can I take the PPC-unit with me if I get a new car?

Yes! If you have a PPC 3 unit, you can transfer it to another vehicle by purchasing only the new tuning software. You do this through a “Change Car” process on your personal PPC page. It's a cost-effective option if, for example, you sell your current car and want to tune the new one. The transfer process is quick and easy and done online. After the transfer, support for the previous vehicle ends.

What if my workshop restores the car to the original settings?

If your service workshop resets the car, you can easily load a new tuning file with your PPC unit. Any updates made by the workshop will still be retained. If you opted for a loaned PPC at purchase, there’s a 1500 SEK fee to reload the tuning file.
