Volvo S/V 70 R 250Hp 1997-1998 AWD
Fuel petrol cars
BSR recommends you to use at least EU 98 octane unleaded (≈US 93 octane), no matter if the car is tuned or not, and no matter what tuning stage you have.
• Cars with BSR Stage 3 or more require EU 98 (≈US 93) minimum.
• Cars with BSR Stage 1-2 can be run on EU 95 (≈US 90) if it’s permitted (see instruction book), but the result is increased fuel consumption and less power than indicated.
Diesel cars
Use high quality diesel.
Consumption
Objective measurements of fuel consumption have not been performed. In general an upgrade will give a small fuel consumption reduction as long as the turbo pressure is kept below original pressure, i.e. when the added effect of the tuning is not used. By using sport filters and full flow exhaust emission control systems there is less resistance and therefore the fuel consumption can be reduced with a few percentages.
The fuel consumption can increase as the turbo pressure rises higher than original level.

JR replacement filters are exchanged with the original filter in the original air cleaner box.
With rectangular filters it is usually best to push the filter into the lid of the air box during installation. This will place the filter properly in the centre and it will seal correctly.
The filters/filter edges can be damaged by wrong handling. *).
For round filters the exterior diameter may be smaller on JR filters than on the original filters, but this will not have any effect on function.
For Opti-Flow filterkit, follow the installation instructions and for Direct Air kit, follow the installation diagram.
JR filters are everlasting based on unique cotton fibres and will last for years if maintained properly.
Cleaning is recommended after approx 10 000 kilometres. Depending on season and how the car is used, cleaning may be required earlier than these intervals, in the spring and summer and when driving in highly polluted environments.
Clogged filters *) can cause engine malfunction and damage the engine.
During cleaning use only water based degreasing agents. Preferably environmental friendly.
Spirit based degreasing agents or strong detergents can harm the cotton fibres *)
Dismount the filter and spray the cleaning agent on the side where the air is goes in. Let the cleaning agent work for a couple of minutes. If the filter is very dirty an additional cleaning agent may help dissolve the dirt. Rinse the filter (from the back) under a tap or a shower using tepid water. Let the filter dry. Make sure the filter surface and the exterior rubber edge are undamaged.
If the vehicle is equipped with a coarse filter (leaf filter) before the air filter box, this needs be cleaned at the same time.
Finally, spray the entire filter with JR special oil. Do not overdose the oil so the filter is dripping or the engine can absorb filter oil.
Note. The filter material will be damaged by compressed air or high pressure washing.*)
Round universal filters are made from poluretan. The hose clamp must only be tightened until the filter is sealed and cannot come loose. If the clamp is too tight the clamp will cut into the material and the filter will crack. Large filters must be installed with some kind of support to ensure that the filter does not move.
Loose filters can damage the filter *)
*)in these cases, warranty is no longer valid.

The acceleration times illustrate the difference in percentages when overtaking before and after BSR tuning.
The acceleration times were timed using a advanced GPS equipment on our airfield. The same gear is used throughout the whole interval so the driver´s skills will not influence the results. (at acceleration from 0-100km/h)
Acceleration is started 10km/h before the time keeping starts, i.e. at the acceleration interval 80-120 km/h the acceleration is started at 70km/h. There are always two people in the vehicle.
The presented acceleration times are mean values calculated from 3 runs in both directions. The acceleration times cannot be compared with other times taken using another vehicle or during different conditions. What you can compare are percentages from other vehicles before and after BSR tunings.
In the cases where only the difference calculated as a percentage is stated the information is from a different car body equipped with the same engine, for instance VW Golf vs Audi A3.
Differences between runs can be:
- Load (such as fuel, sound system, spare wheel, passengers)
- Height of tyres (transmission).
- Wheel rims (oscillating mass)
- Width of tyres (taxiing resistance).
- Vehicle height (air resistance).
- Ground/road (taxiing resistance)
- Angle
- Temperature
- Air pressure
- Humidity
- Fuel quality
- Vehicle condition.

A requirement for tuning is that the vehicle is in good condition. If the car is faulty in any way, this needs to be attended to before the tuning is performed.
If you are uncertain of the vehicle´s condition BSR´s retail dealers can help you with a basic inspection.
A basic inspection means diagnosis, testing of the turbo system (pipes, hoses, intercooler etc). Our technicians are experienced in finding hidden problems in components that are usually not discovered.
The cost of this inspection is 2100SEK with additional costs for replacement or repair of components. Before such actions are taken you will be contacted for approval.
The retail dealers/BSR Tuning who have the "Technical Support" or "Repair shop" box checked on the homepage are generally able to help you.
Contact your nearest retail dealer.

The car manufacturers generally have long service intervals. In connection with tuning, we recommend closer intervals to ensure better function and a longer life for the engine.
Motor oil and oil filters must be replaced regularly every 15 000 km (this is a requirement for BSR´s vehicle guarantee) and spark plugs must be replaced every 15 000 km.
If the vehicle is equipped with sports filter this must be cleaned at least every 10 000 km or even more frequently, depending on season and the amount of air pollution (for example when using the car in inner city areas). If the original filter is used this must be replaced after a maximum of 20 000 km (or even earlier, according to earlier recommendations).
Regularly inspect and clean the so-called course filter in the air intake before the air filter. Especially during autumn leaves tend to get stuck and this stops the engine from getting enough air.

Generally our parts, such as exhaust systems, frontpipes and Opti Flow-kits are developed for LHD cars. Some of them could also fit RHD cars, but we have no possibilities to test this.

What will BSR tuning change?[ direct link ]
General description of changes/inspections performed by BSRs Motronic chip.
Some models do not have all the above mentioned features, and there may be other differences depending on model and make of the car.

| Function | Measures |
| Ignition (Ignition calibration matrixes) | Optimised for best performance and to comply with exhaust emission requirements, even with regards to exhaust emissions temperature. Possible knocking/pinging tendencies are controlled and adjusted. |
| Fuel (Fuel calibration matrixes) | Optimised for best performance and to comply with exhaust emission requirements. Exhaust emissions temperature control> |
| Boost Calibration (Boost Calibration matrixes) | Adapted to increased power and adjusted for required character. |
| Boost valve control (Boost valve duty cycle calibrations) | Regulated for appropriate boost pressure build-up and to eliminate possible boost pressure spiking. |
| Boost Calibration Limit (Boost level safety limit) | Adjusted for maintained safety. |
| Torque Gear Limit (Torque limit for each gear) | Regulated for optimum acceleration without exaggerated wheel spin, still maintaining safe transmission. |
| E-gas (Drive by wire) (Drive by wire calibration) | Adjusted for improved fuel response |
| Max Vehicle Speed Calibration (Speed limit) | Eliminated. |
| Max Engine Speed Calibration (Engine RPM limit) | No alteration. |
Some models do not have all the above mentioned features, and there may be other differences depending on model and make of the car.
